Los célebres ilusionistas alemanes Sigfried & Roy crearon esta maravilla de selva que parece salida del sombrero en uno de sus actos de magia. Sigfried Fischbacher y su compañero Roy Horn, el uno nacido en la Pomerania y el otro en Baviera, actuaban cada noche desde hacía años en el MGM-Mirage, en un espectáculo de fama mundial con la actuación de sus tigres blancos del jardín secreto. El teatro del MGM-Mirage se llenaba siempre al tope de su capacidad de 2,000 butacas. Si algún turista no se había prevenido de hacer reserva de localidades con meses de anticipación, debía pagar por un boleto de reventa al menos 300 dólares, si es que con suerte encontraba alguno. Hoy todo es historia antigua porque el show fue clausurado definitivamente. Uno de los dos magos, Sigfried, reunió a los 267 empleados de la compañía en la misma sala de espectáculos y los alentó a buscar nuevos trabajos. Se despidieron con lágrimas. Los felinos del jardín secreto se hallan ahora dispersos en diferentes zoológicos de los Estados Unidos; el único que permanece en su sitio es el legendario Leo, el león de la MGM, ya viejo de mucha edad, cuyos rugidos han dado la bienvenida a sucesivas generaciones de espectadores en las salas de cine alrededor del planeta.
